Retail Shopping Malls - Today, at the Governor’s Press Conference, he announced that retail shopping malls will be permitted to reopen on June 29th. Masks/face coverings must be worn, all stores will be limited to 50% capacity, and restaurants may provide takeout or outdoor dining. Unfortunately, food court seating, common seating areas, theaters and arcades must remain closed.
EDA Small Business Grant
If your chamber or a member applied for the grant and have not heard back yet, CEO Tim Sullivan said yesterday that applicants will be notified by the weekend, and money will go “out the door in the next couple weeks.” Please remember to check the spam folder.
PPP Loan Forgiveness
We have heard that the application process to receive the loan forgiveness is burdensome and time-consuming. We know that the time and effort could be better used on recovering and reopening. Last week, we reached out to the NJ congressional delegation and asked them to assist small businesses by changing the PPP loan forgiveness process to automatically forgive loans of less than $150,000. You may have seen in our Daily Update memo this morning that Congress and the US Treasury have changed the terms for loan forgiveness under the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). While it does not address our specific request, it abbreviates the form and supposedly requires fewer calculations and less documentation. Please feel free to pass this on to your members:
